Samsung Frame TV Art Mode settings, explained

Updated September 17, 2026

Samsung Frame Art Mode – the Samsung Frame TV Art Mode that makes the TV a frame – is the low-power display state a Samsung Frame enters when you press the power button once from TV mode. Instead of a black screen it shows a piece of art, dims and brightens with the room, and turns off when nobody is there. All of that behaviour is controlled by one settings screen, which Samsung has moved and renamed slightly over the years. Here is every option, where to find it, and what to set it to.

Where the settings are

  • All models: in Art Mode, press Select (2017–2021 remotes) or the up arrow to open the Art Mode home; select the gear icon.
  • 2022 and later (LS03B onward): also Settings → General → Art Mode settings; on 2024–2025 models the menu is called Art Mode options and some items moved to General & Privacy.
  • SmartThings app: Frame → Art Mode → gear icon mirrors most of the same settings.

The settings and what they do

Brightness

Sets the panel brightness in Art Mode, separately from TV mode. Default is fairly high. Lower it until a white matte looks like paper rather than a light box – typically 2–3 notches down. This single setting does more for realism than any other. Detail: too bright or too dark.

Colour tone

Cool, Standard or Warm (some years use a slider). Warm removes the blue cast that makes a screen look like a screen. Use it.

Brightness sensor (Auto brightness)

Adjusts brightness to ambient light. On by default and worth keeping on; the Frame’s sensor is on the bottom edge, so a lamp directly beneath the TV can fool it.

Motion detector / Motion sensor sensitivity

Off, Low, Medium, High. Governs when the Frame notices someone in the room and wakes or keeps the art on. Medium for most rooms. Note that on some model years the sensor only works when the TV faces an open room – furniture directly in front of it blocks it.

Sleep after

How long the art stays on after the last detected motion: 15 min, 30 min, 1 h, 2 h, 4 h, or Off (stay on). This is the setting behind most “my art keeps turning off” complaints – set it longer or Off. See keeps turning off.

Night mode

Turns Art Mode off when the room is dark. On by default on many years. Turn off if you want art visible in a dim evening room.

Slideshow (Art of the day / Rotation)

Cycles through Favourites or My Collection at an interval (10 min to daily). Turn off if the art keeps changing unexpectedly. Setup: rotate art.

Matte

Set per artwork (Select on the piece → Matte), not globally: style (none, modern, shadow box, panoramic…) and colour. Art already at 16:9 can use None for full bleed.

Photo filter

Applied per uploaded photo in SmartThings – grain, ink and similar effects to make snapshots look printed. Optional.

Art Mode on power off (auto Art Mode)

Whether one press of Power goes to Art Mode (default) or fully off. Found under General → System Manager or Power settings depending on year. If your Frame goes black instead of showing art, this has been switched off – see turn Art Mode on/off.

These, plus painterly art with a muted palette, are the whole recipe in how to make Frame TV art look real.

How Art Mode works (briefly)

One press of Power switches between TV and Art Mode; press and hold turns the TV fully off. In Art Mode the panel runs at reduced backlight – roughly a third of TV mode – and the motion and light sensors modulate it. Art comes from the Samsung Art Store (subscription) or My Collection (your own uploads, free). Everything above is about how long, how bright and how often it shows that art.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get to Art Mode settings on a Frame TV?

In Art Mode press Select (or the up arrow) to open the Art Mode home, then the gear/Settings icon. On 2022-and-newer models the same options are also under Settings → General → Art Mode settings (2024–2025: Art Mode options).

What does 'Sleep after' do in Art Mode?

It sets how long the art stays on after the motion sensor last detected someone – 15 or 30 minutes, 1, 2 or 4 hours, or Off (never). If your art keeps turning off, this and the motion detector sensitivity are the first settings to check.

What is the motion detector sensitivity?

How easily the Frame's sensor registers a person. High wakes the art when someone passes the doorway; Low needs movement close to the TV. If the TV keeps waking in an empty room, lower it; if it keeps sleeping while you sit still, raise it.

Should the brightness sensor be on?

Yes for most rooms. It lowers the panel as the room darkens, which is exactly when a screen stands out. Turn it off only if a lamp near the TV makes it flicker between levels.

What is Night Mode on the Frame?

Night Mode turns the art off completely when the room is dark, on the logic that a real painting would not be visible either. Turn it off if you want art glowing softly at night.
