Frame TV Art Mode not working: stuck, not loading, art not showing

Updated September 17, 2026

“Art Mode not working” covers several different faults. Find yours below; each has a specific fix, and the general resets at the end resolve most of the rest.

Stuck in Art Mode (won’t switch to TV)

  1. Press Power once, firmly – a short press toggles TV/Art; a held press powers off.
  2. If nothing responds, hold Power for 5+ seconds to restart the TV.
  3. Still stuck: unplug the One Connect box from the wall for 30 seconds.
  4. Check the remote: replace batteries; re-pair by pointing it at the TV and holding Return + Play/Pause for 3 seconds.
  5. If the TV responds to the SmartThings app but not the remote, the remote is the fault, not Art Mode.

Goes to black instead of showing art

Art Mode is disabled, or something else is powering the TV down. See turning Art Mode on for the toggle by model year, and keeps turning off for the sensor, timer and HDMI-CEC causes.

Art Store not loading / “temporarily unavailable”

The Art Store is an online service; My Collection is local. If the Store shows a spinner, an error or Art Mode is temporarily unavailable:

  1. Network: Settings → General → Network → Network Status. Reconnect Wi-Fi, or use Ethernet on the One Connect box.
  2. Samsung account: Settings → General → System Manager → Samsung Account → sign out, then sign in again. The Art Store needs a signed-in account even for free pieces.
  3. Firmware: Settings → Support → Software Update → Update Now.
  4. Samsung outage: check Samsung’s status page or community forums; outages are usually short. Your own uploads keep working meanwhile – a good reason to keep a set of your own art in My Collection.
  5. Subscription lapsed: Store favourites stop displaying; the Store itself still loads. Renew or use My Collection.

Art not showing / My Collection empty

  • After a reset or account change, My Collection is wiped. Re-upload.
  • Upload “succeeded” but nothing appears: the phone and TV were on different accounts or networks; check SmartThings shows the correct TV. See upload troubleshooting.
  • Only a few pieces show: scroll – newest uploads appear first; older ones are further along.

Art is too small / doesn’t cover the whole screen

The image is inside a matte, or the file is not 16:9. Highlight the piece → Select → Matte → None. If it still has borders, the image itself is a different ratio (a 4:5 or portrait file); re-export at 3840 × 2160 – see size and dimensions.

Art looks blurry or pixelated

The file is smaller than 3840 × 2160 and being upscaled, or it is a heavily compressed download. Use a 4K source at JPEG quality 85+.

Motion sensor or brightness sensor not working

The sensors are on the bottom bezel. A soundbar, shelf or the Studio Stand’s lip can block them; so can a decorative bezel fitted slightly low. Check the sensor window is clear. If sensors are enabled in settings and still do nothing after a restart, that is a hardware fault – contact Samsung.

Art Mode option missing or greyed out

  • Retail mode: Settings → General → System Manager → Usage Mode → Home Mode.
  • Not a Frame: other Samsung TVs have Ambient Mode, not Art Mode; SmartThings shows Art Mode only for Frame models.
  • Old app version: update SmartThings.

Resets, in order of severity

  1. Restart: hold Power 5 s.
  2. Power cycle: unplug One Connect box 30 s.
  3. Reset Art Mode settings (where available): Art Mode settings → Reset.
  4. Reset Smart Hub: Settings → Support → Device Care → Self Diagnosis → Reset Smart Hub (re-sign into apps afterwards).
  5. Factory reset: Settings → General → Reset. Clears My Collection – back up your art first.

If a factory reset does not restore Art Mode, the fault is hardware (often the One Connect box or its cable) and Samsung support is the next step.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Frame TV stuck in Art Mode?

The remote's power press is being read as a short press that toggles art, or the TV has frozen. Hold Power for 5 seconds to force a restart; if that fails, unplug the One Connect box for 30 seconds. Check the remote's batteries and pairing afterwards.

Why won't the Art Store load on my Frame TV?

Network or Samsung account. Confirm the TV is online (Settings → General → Network), sign out and back in to the Samsung account, and update the firmware. Samsung's servers occasionally show 'temporarily unavailable' for an hour or two – your own uploads in My Collection are unaffected.

Why is my art so small on the Frame TV?

A matte is applied, or the image is not 16:9 and is being shown whole inside a border. Select the artwork → Matte → None, and use 3840 × 2160 files.

Why doesn't my art cover the whole screen?

Same cause: matte on, or a non-16:9 image. Remove the matte and re-export the image at 16:9.

My uploaded art disappeared from My Collection

A factory reset or a Samsung account change clears My Collection. Re-upload from your phone or USB; keep the files backed up.
